Clint Dempsey didn’t train outdoors with the Sounders today, and Eddie Johnson left early.

Here’s coach Sigi Schmid explaining both situations.

On Dempsey’s hamstring: He’s doing OK, doing much better. It’s a hamstring, and the decision for these two days is to stay inside and after that we’ll see where he’s at when we come back into training on Friday.

If he’s ruled out for Sunday vs. New York: No, not necessarily. We’ll see how he comes along, how he reacts these next two days.

How injury happened: I don’t know exactly because he didn’t do that much with us – when he came back from the national team he didn’t do that much. But obviously it’s something that maybe from the wear and tear of the national team – playing all of those games in rapid succession – maybe coming back and a wrong step in training. It’s hard to tell.

On EJ: We pulled some other guys out earlier. We pulled him, he’s going to get an X-ray on his shoulder just to make sure everything’s OK with that. We just didn’t want him in any contact today.
