Here’s what coach Sigi Schmid had to say today about the availability of national team members Eddie Johnson and Clint Dempsey for the Friday home match against RSL:
“They’re fine. Obviously we wanted to go easy with them today – make it more of a (regeneration) day, since they had the travel day yesterday. Eddie came in already yesterday and did some stuff and so forth. Clint came in a little bit later. But they’re fine. They’re ready to go. We’ll still figure out what part and what role they’re going to play, but they’ll play a role. … They’re in consideration for starting or maybe coming off the bench, but they’ll definitely play a role in the game.”
We also asked about Obafemi Martins (ankle) and Brad Evans (calf).
“(Oba) came through very well,” Schmid said. “It was a good week for him, it was a good training week. He didn’t have any issues with his ankle – felt all right with that, was able to train through everything and do everything. It’s good, it helps his fitness and he looked sharp.
“Evans is a no-go for tomorrow. We’re hoping for the LA game. We think if we would have tried to throw him out there tomorrow we would have definitely jeopardized the LA game. But he felt much much better today. He wanted to do more and we had to put the reins on him and say ‘No, that’s enough, we’re good.'”
I’ll be back with more from both players soon.
