MLS042813It was inevitable that the Sounders would lose points in the MLS standings this week, as they were idle while the rest of the league was active.

The damage for now: 15 points south of Dallas in the Supporters Shied race, six away from RSL and Chivas USA in the Western Conference playoff race, and three behind Colorado to climb out of the Western Conference basement.

That final one could change as the Rapids visit Houston this afternoon.

It should be noted that the Sounders have played the fewest games in the league (although only one fewer than East-leading Montreal and West No. 2 LA). That makes it important for them to start making up ground when the schedule accelerates a bit in early May with three games over eight days: Saturday at Philadelphia, May 8 at Kansas City, May 11 home to the Earthquakes.

  1. I’m still not that concerned about our position at the bottom of the table as I am by our poor quality of play. On paper, we have a competitive top-tier team, but the chemistry hasn’t been there. Hopefully, with improved health and practice time, we’ll play better starting next week in Philly.

It’s a long season and we all saw how LA came from the bottom to take the league. We’re not LA but we are a playoff caliber team…on paper.

Playoffs, Playoffs??? The season goes until October, why are we even talking about playoffs???
