Here’s some of the highlights from Obafemi Martins’ first postgame interview as a Sounder:
On the experience: They’re good fans and they really support. I’m glad that I played today, but unfortunately we drew the game.
On his own play: I was a little bit tired from the travel, you know. I decided I wanted to play. I told the coach that.
On the advantage of coming for just one game: I think it’s better to come now and see the place. I’m going to the national team (Sunday) and it’s not going to be new to me anymore. I’m going to try to help the team and score goals.
More on the decision to travel: The president (general manager Adrian Hanauer, apparently) wanted me to stay in Madrid so I can go straight to the national team. But I decided to come (to Seattle) to try to play as soon as possible.
More on welcome from fans: I’m going to choose them as one of the best fans. I’ve been playing a lot of clubs, and it’s different here. They’re friendly and they really support the team. I like that.
On needing to get used to FieldTurf: Definitely. You know, the players are playing on it, so I’ve got no choice.
I’ll be back with more.
