The Sounders trained this morning at CenturyLink Field, preparing for the second and resolving leg of their CCL semifinal series with Tigres.
Not much news other than this injury report from Sigi:
“Joseph is still not available. Johansson won’t be available at this stage. Zakuani went through training today, so we’ll evaluate him tomorrow and see where he’s at. Estrada went through today, so we’ll evaluate tomorrow and see where he’s at.”
Here was Estrada’s take on his chances:
“I don’t know for this upcoming game on Tuesday, but hopefully toward the end of the weekend I’ll be better. I definitely feel progress. But it’s still kind of tough. This is my first ankle injury, so it’s kind of frustrating.”
Otherwise there was mostly just general talk about the importance of the game, in which the Sounders must overcome a one-goal defecit to become the first MLS team to knock a Mexican club out of Champions League.
“It’s something that gets mentioned but it’s not something we lay our whole preparation around,” Schmid said. “I think they know. It’s important for us as a league. It’s been a while since a U.S. team has won this tournament, obviously has never won this tournament under the new format. It’s just a matter of us trying to get one step further.”
Schmid also said he doesn’t think Tigres using its starters in a 2-1 Liga MX win yesterday at San Luis will impact tomorrow’s game much.
I’ll be back with more.
