A dozen or so Sounders trained today at former Cactus League baseball fields in Tucson.

The Sounders trained in two groups today in Tucson: some back at the hotel, and a dozen or so at the converted Spring Training complex across the street from Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium where they beat the Red Bulls last night.

“The guys who played last night stayed at the hotel just to do (regeneration),” coach Sigi Schmid said. “We’ve gone again a number of days in a row, and I thought they needed to get off their legs a little bit. The guys here were guys who didn’t play or guys who were coming off of injury or something like that.”

Defender Adam Johansson started with the training group today, but he left early with ice on his right knee.

“He was in the first part of it,” Schmid said. “Then he felt his knee a little bit, so we pulled him out of it.”

In other health issues heading into tomorrow’s match with Varacruz:

On Eddie Johnson: Eddie, he took a knock. In training the other day, he came to get on the end of a cross a little bit and hit the post. … We’ll see how he came through today. That will make our decision for tomorrow.

On Shalrie Joseph: Probably not. He’s got to get fit, and he still has a little bit of that calf issue.
