Sounders beat New York 2-0. Seattle moves to 3-0-0 in the competition and will meet Real Salt Lake (1-1-1) on Sunday for the Desert Diamond Cup title.
Here is my game story.
I’ll add more quotes and notes in some new posts above.
78th minute: Mario Martinez sizzles in another nice goal for Seattle. Sounders ahead 2-0.
67th minute: Drizzle has turned to snow.
63rd minute: Sounders sub a whole new team, including several starters. Josh Ford in goal.
Second half: … has begun. Jennings Rex for Bowen is only halftime change for Sounders.
Halftime: Seattle leads 1-0 on Caskey goal.
Stats: Shots 7-6 NY, saves, 4-2 Sea; fouls 6-3 NY; corners 2-1 NY; no offside calls in the half.
New York needs to score four goals to advance to the final. Three puts them into a tie RSL.
36th minute: GOAL Seattle. Alex Caskey puts Sounders ahead 1-0, following initial Bowen shot drew out keeper. Seattle, 1-0.
First 30: Scoreless. Neagle had a bit of a 1-on-1 chance, but couldn’t convert. Olave put a header on goal, but was easily handled by Hahnemann.
First 20: Scoreless.
First 10 minutes: Scoreless. Pretty good up and down pace. Better chances to New York.
First kick: The game has begun. Sounders in rave/rave; NY in white/red. Snow has stopped, and even drizzle is down to almost nothing.
Game 1: RSL came from behind late to beat New England, 3-2 in the opening game of tonight’s doubleheader. The result eliminates the Revs from Desert Diamond Cup contention.
If Seattle wins, draws or loses by one goal tonight, it will face Salt Lake in the Cup final on Saturday. A two-goal win by the Red Bulls would set up a tie-breaker (which I haven’t yet figured out).
We also are told it now looks like the start of the second game will be delayed to about 6:30 PT.

New York will open like this: Robles, Kimura, Olave, Pearce, Miller, Juninho, Alexander, Izquierdo, Lade, Martinez, Espindola.
Weather: The weather has been odd to say the least. The Sounders woke up to snow at their hotel, which is at somewhat higher elevation than most of Tucson. It has remained cold all day, and the temperature is 36 a half hour before first kick. In fact, a few snowflakes fell during the first half of the RSL-Revs match. But it’s just a cold drizzle now, with a few flakes mixed in.
Pregame: The Sounders and New York Red Bulls will kick off at 6 p.m. (PT) for the nightcap of the Desert Diamond Cup here in Tucson.
