Here’s some of what coach Sigi Schmid had to say tonight after his team’s 2-0 win over New York in the Desert Diamond Cup:

Overview:
Obviously we still have to make some decisions on some players at the bottom end of our roster, so it was good to see how they adjusted. And it was good to see when the first team came in you could see a change.

On Mario Martinez: He’s a good player. Last year it was a little bit of him being new to the team, him coming into the team, him being gone so much with Honduras that he really couldn’t train with us, so it was tough to get him in on a regular basis. But oyu see now his confidence is great. With him being in with us, getting to know the guys, guys know him from last year now, and not it makes it easy to play. Like I told DeAndre Yedlin: When you’ve got a guy like Mario in front of you, every time you win the ball just play it to him. He won’t mess around with it, he won’t mess it up, and then you can make the runs you need to make.

On playing in snow: It got slick toward the very end, but not so much prior to that. As long as the guys have the right footware. Obviously you play in those conditions all the time in Europe, so it’s just a matter of making sure you have the right footware and being smart about what you do and the runs that you make. … I don’t know: snow in Tucson: Next thing you’re going to tell me is its going to snow in Monterrey when we go there.
