This just in from the club:
Seattle Reign FC has signed defender Elli Reed, the National Women’s Soccer League club announced today.
“I am extremely excited about this opportunity to play for Seattle Reign FC,” said Reed. “I am looking forward to learning from the experienced coaching staff and to play alongside the talented players that the club has already signed. Seattle is a city that has become known around the country for its soccer culture and I cannot wait to represent Seattle in the NWSL.”
Reed, 23, has been playing for FCR 2001 Duisburg in the German Women’s Bundesliga. She was the eighth pick of the 2011 Women’s Professional Soccer draft and played her first two seasons with the Boston Breakers, both in the WPS and later the WPSL.
Reed was a four-year starter at the University of Portland and two-time All-West Coast Conference selection. A member of the U.S. National Team program beginning at the U-17 level, Reed was a starter for Team USA in winning the 2008 FIFA U-20 World Cup and has since been with the U-23 team.
“Elli has experience of playing in the top American leagues as well as overseas,” said Reign FC coach Laura Harvey. “She knows what it takes to be successful in this league and we are excited for Elli to be part of our roster.”
Seattle Reign FC is one of eight founding members of the NWSL. U.S. National Team stars Hope Solo and Megan Rapinoe were among seven international players assigned to Seattle in the allocation process. Season tickets are now on sale at www.seattlereignfc.com.
