SDraft13<Overview: The SuperDraft began with the New England Revolution selecting Andrew Farrell, a defender from Louisville.

Details on the Sounders’ two picks can be found lower on this post, and above in new free-standing posts.

Elsewhere, Cascadia rival Vancouver had two top-five picks and used them on Kekuta Manneh, a forward from the Austin Aztex, and Erik Hurtado, a forward from Santa Clara. The Portland Timbers had no first-round pick, but used the 34th overall on defender Dylan Tucker-Gangnes from the University of Washington.

Other Pac-12 picks were Emery Welshman of Oregon State to Toronto with the 16th pick, Fernando Mongne of UCLA to Montreal with the 18 pick, and Ryan Hollingshead of UCLA to Dallas with the 20th pick.

Monge also had played locally with Sounders U-23.

Sounders pick: After moving up to the No. 10 pick, the Sounders select forward Eriq Zavaleta. He is 6-1, 185. Can play defense. Sounders sent allocation money and No. 16 pick to Toronto to get him.

The Sounders will make their top pick available soon, so I should be updating with first info from him around top of the hour. Until then, here is his profile from MLSsoccer.com.

Sounders move: At pick No. 10 — previously Toronto’s — Sounders FC calls a time out after acquiring the trade for allocation money.

strong>Picks of interest: With the second pick, Chivas USA stays true to its word by selecting Carlos Alvarez of UConn. … Toronto used its third pick on midfielder Kyle Bekker and sent its fourth pick to Vancouver, who picked forward Kekuta Hanneh, an 18-year-old out of high school. Then the Whitecaps used their No. 5 pick on forward Erik Hurtado of Santa Clara.

With the first pick: New England, with a pick acquired yesterday from Toronto, opens the SuperDraft by selecting Andrew Farrell of Louisville.

Portland move: ESPN reports that Portland Timbers have “parted ways” with Kris Boyd.

Commissioner remarks: Commissioner Don Garber begins with a review of league’s progress, citing attendance record, Wondolowski’s goal record, Galaxy championship, expansion to Montreal, new soccer-specific stadiums in Montreal and Houston, every league game televised in hi-def, etc.

9 a.m. Draft about to begin. Sounders still at No. 16.

Preview: Just a quick reminder that Major League Soccer’s SuperDraft begins this morning at 9 a.m. from Indianapolis. (Here’s our preview from this morning’s paper.)

There’s no live TV coverage, but there is live streaming from MLSsoccer.com and other sites. We’ll also keep this blog open with updates on the picks of Sounders FC and other picks of particular interest to the Sounders.

After the draft we should get reaction from coach Sigi Schmid, maybe some others from the organization, and perhaps the newly selected Sounders.

The Soundes have five more selections in the Supplemental Draft on Tuesday.

The club opens training camp Monday. The season opens at home against Montreal on March 2.
