Tacoma, WA – On Friday, December 14, Sounders FC U-23 was awarded with the 2012 Progress Award by the Premier Developmental League. The award is the first club honor received by the organization under General Manager and Head Coach, Darren Sawatzky.

Tukwila, WA – After being nominated for four end-of-the-year awards by the United Soccer Leagues, the Seattle Sounders Women was named W-League Organization of the year, while also earning W-League Marketing Team of the Year award on December 14th. The honors were handed out at the USL Annual General Meetings in Tampa, Florida. The Sounders Women stood out amongst over 30 W-League franchises throughout the United States.

Seattle Reign FC today announced that Laura Harvey will join the club as its first Head Coach. Laura joins Seattle Reign FC from the Arsenal Ladies, where as Head Coach she led the club to six trophies, including three consecutive league titles and the FA WSL Coach of the Year Award in 2011. In addition, Laura previously worked as an Assistant Coach for the England Women’s National Team at the U17, U19 and U23 levels.
“As a proven winner with the ability to bring the best out of each player, Laura is the type of coach that a player wants to play for,” said Amy Carnell, GM of Seattle Reign FC. “Having managed some of the world’s best at Arsenal and within the English National Team system, she is composed under pressure and clearly understands what it takes to bring home a championship.”

Tukwila, WA – On December 18th, Hope Solo spent time with children at the Henry T. Schatz Boys & Girls Club in Tacoma, Washington. She played games with Boys & Girls Club kids, answered questions from the crowd, and presented a $5,000 check on behalf of Solo and the Sounders Women to Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound.

The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) announced today the quarterfinal schedule for the 2012/13 Champions League. The round is contested over two legs and opens on Tuesday, March 5 with the Houston Dynamo hosting Santos, last season’s runner-up, at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Xelaju will be at home on March 6 for the first leg of its series against two-time defending champion Monterrey, which finished an impressive third at the recently completed FIFA Club World Cup. Later that same evening, visiting Tigres will take on the Seattle Sounders.
The first leg ends on Thursday, March 7, when the LA Galaxy travels to Costa Rica for a meeting with Herediano.
Second-leg action starts on Tuesday, March 12, with an encounter between Monterrey and Xelaju, followed by Tigres-Seattle Sounders.
Quarterfinal play concludes the next day with two games. Santos will square off against Houston and the LA Galaxy faces Herediano.
The quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinals April 2-4 and April 9-11. The semifinal pairings are the Monterrey-Xelaju winner facing the Galaxy-Herediano winner, and the Seattle-Tigres victor playing either Santos or Houston.
The semifinal winners will meet in a two-leg final set for April 24 and May 1.
The winner of the 2012/13 CONCACAF Champions League will earn a berth to the 2013 FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco.

Seattle’s new team in the National Women’s Soccer League will be called Seattle Reign FC. The official team colors are white, midnight black, royal blue and platinum.

Bill Predmore, owner of the new women’s professional soccer team in Seattle, today announced that Seattle Reign FC has been selected as the name of the club. Seattle Reign FC is slated to begin its pre-season in March of 2013 with the regular season commencing in April 2013.
