Here’s some reaction about Sounders goalkeeper Michael Gspurning being named among the three finalists for MLS goalkeeper of the year and newcomer of the year, and forward Eddie Johnson being a finalist for comeback player of the year.

Coach SIGI SCHMID on the honors: It’s great. Obviously Eddie had a good season scoring a good amount of goals coming off where a lot of people had written him off, so that’s certainly a worthy nomination. And Gspurning, I’ve felt all along that he’s goalkeeper of the year for me in the league – and obviously he’s a guy who’s a candidate for newcomer of the year. So I think those are very fair.”

GSPURNING on being named: It’s a great honor, of course. It’s a great honor, and it’s good if you see you’ve been honored for the hard work that you’re doing. I want to say thank-you to everybody who’s supported me in good and also in the tough times. I’m very proud of coming back after the injury with the same quality as before. And that’s good for me, but again, soccer is a team sport and it’s all about the team. We have still the target, and we still believe we can do it.

GSPURNING on if this ranks among the best seasons of his career: It’s one of the best. Hopefully next year I stay healthy and fit throughout the whole season. It worked out good for me personally, and I’m very happy.
