The Sounders are off the training pitch for another day, preparing for their Western Conference final Sunday against Los Angeles.
Afterward, coach Sigi Schmid gave a personnel update.
On Mario Martinez, who played 17 minutes for the Honduras national team Wednesday: He had the travel to deal with. Basically he was on a plane Wednesday going to Salt Lake, on a plane Friday coming back here, on a plane Saturday going to L.A., on a plane Sunday coming back here, and on a plane Monday (going to Houston). So he’s had a lot of plane rides. His frequent-flier mileage is good.
On Martinez’s availability for Sunday: We’ll see. Obviously we’ve had to train a little bit and we’ve had to prepare as we go into this week. Mario obviously played a key role in the game in Salt Lake and scored a key goal. He’s going to factor into this game. Where and when is something we will determine.
Injury updates for Leo Gonzalez and Mauro Rosales: Leo went through the whole training again today, so we’ll make a decision on him as we go into tomorrow. Mauro did more. Was in the 8-v-8. He and I talked and we’ll see how he is tomorrow and then we’ll make a final decision then. … It’s game fitness, and I don’t think either are quite at 100 percent. It’s how close are they to 100 percent. How many minutes do they have to give. In a game like it is (Sunday) you have to be able to apply speed, you’ve got to get it into fifth gear. If all you can get it into is third or fourth, then you have to think a little bit.
