Tougher challenge: Score three, hold LA to zero?

The Sounders need to pick up at least three goals Sunday to advance Sunday against the LA Galaxy.

I asked coach Sigi Schmid this morning whether his bigger concern was scoring the three goals, or holding the Galaxy to zero.

His answer: “Well, we’ve got to do both. Obviously just from a mathematical standpoint, we’ve got to beat them by three. So the less goals you give them, that means the less goals we have to score. We have to score a minimum of three. We don’t want to give any up, so then if we score more than three it puts us in a good position. And if we give some up, then we have to score some more just to stay in the same position. From our standpoint, you can’t score unless you have the ball, so recovering the ball is really important. They’re a team that’s a good counterattacking team, so we have to be aware of that and make sure we don’t get caught on the counter, and at the same token that we can maintain pressure and score goals.”
