Sounders using break to get healthier

The Sounders often say that after a bad game they like to get back out and play quickly.

That’s not the case this week, as the Sounders have a full week between Western Conference final games and don’t return to action until 6 p.m. Sunday, meeting the LA Galaxy at CenturyLink Field.

However, coach Sigi Schmid said there is some upside to the delay.

“I thought training today was good: good spirits,” he said. “We’re off tomorrow and then we come back Friday, Saturday and get ready. … Guys are getting healthier. Guys are getting closer. Leo made his second practice today; so we’ll see now how that comes through. Mauro did more today – was in the first part of practice as a neutral player. So from that standpoint it’s good. Having the week to allow people to recover is important.”

After Los Angeles’ series-opening 3-0 win last Sunday, Galaxy coach Bruce Arena also addressed the week-long break.

“It will be good,” he said. “I think this is a difficult schedule for all the teams. I think it was challenging for D.C. United going down in Houston, I think Seattle would probably say the same. We’ve had, obviously, to play in games. So it’s been a lot of games in a short period of time and we’ve been fortunate enough to be able to survive to this point.”
