Here’s what Sounders coach Sigi Schmid said tonight about the non availability of midfielder Mauro Rosales and the decision to start Mario Martinez, who eventually provided the game-winner.
“Mauro it was something that he’s better. He’s much better. He’s improving. Even today he went out and ran a little bit and feels much better. I don’t know if the L.A. first game will come in time, but for sure the second game, he should be all right for that.
“Mario we thought was a player in terms of fitness, he was a guy who had close to 90 minutes in him because of the 90 minutes he played with Honduras. We also knew that his passing could help us. We felt that his ability in set pieces – we wanted to hit some swinging corners – could help us as well. Obviously he delivered for us with a great goal.”
