For the first time, Sounders FC played on a pitch tonight that included the thick outline of an NFL gridiron along with end zone and midfield logos of the Seattle Seahawks, who play a home game against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon.

Coach Sigi Schmid was asked after the match if the unusual field lines caused any confusion among players.

“I think it was OK,” Schmid said. “It probably looked worse from up top than it looked from on the field itself. The guys were good about blocking it out of their minds and just playing. I think it was OK. Obviously we’d still prefer a clean field, but we appreciate what was done.”
