The Sounders don’t get back into CONCACAF Champions League group play until tomorrow, when it hosts Marathon of Honduras.

But they’ll be in the role of interested observers tonight, as CCL resums with two nationall televised games: Olimpia at Houston (5 p.m., Fox Soccer) and Herediano at Real Salt Lake (7 p.m., Fox Soccer).

“We’re going to look at the results tonight to get an idea of how many points the group winner has out of the Salt Lake group, how many points the group winner has out of Houston’s group, Monterrey’s group as well,” Sounders coach Sigi Schmid said. “So that will give us an idea a little bit of what the point totals are and that’s the thing that we’re looking for more so than anything. But it’s nice to be able to know that we can play a bit of a mixed lineup tomorrow. Obviously we still want to come out with a result. We want to get on top early and take their enthusiasm for the game away early.”

Four teams entered tonight’s play capable of getting to 12 pts in group. Herediano was limited to a tie and 10pts by Real Salt Lake, and Monterrey had a 6 to 0 win over Chorrillo to get the maximum 12 pts. Houston had a tie to qualify for the quarterfinals with 8 pts.

Tomorrow night the Sounders can go for 12 pts with a win, as can Santos Laguna. No other team can qualify with more than 10 pts.
