Seattle’s Brad Evans was voted today as MLS Player of the Week. The midfielder moved back to defense and contributed to the Sounders shutout of Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, then scored the first two goals last night in Seattle’s 3-1 win over Dallas last night.

“A lot of credit got to the teammates,” Evans said. “Nobody else in the league scored two goals, so I think it was automatic. … I don’t look at awards, I just don’t really care to be honest. It’s more for the team. I just want to push forward and the only thing that’s on my mind is making the second round of the playoffs.”

Evans got my No. 1 vote, with my No. 2 going to SKC goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen.

Here’s the release from the league:

Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Brad Evans was today voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 33 of the 2012 MLS season.

Evans demonstrated his versatility over the course of two matches for the Sounders last week. He scored two goals in Seattle’s 3-1 victory over FC Dallas on Sunday night as well as stepped up to bolster a shorthanded Seattle in the 0-0 draw against Real Salt Lake earlier in the week.

The honor is Evans’ first MLS Player of the Week award in his career. He is the third Sounders FC player to be voted MLS Player of the Week this season, joining David Estrada (Week 2) and Eddie Johnson (Weeks 22 & 27).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at
