After a day off yesterday, the Sounders returning to training at Starfire today.

The trio of Eddie Johnson (USA), Mario Martinez (Honduras) and Adam Johansson (Sweden) were all back from their international duty.

“Good, good,” coach Sigi Schmid said. “Johansson said he was very proud to be Swedish today, after they came back and tied Germany. I was not happy with that comment. So, as a result of that I think I have to eat Swedish meatballs for a week or something. He was fine. Mario Martinez came back good. He had a little bit of a hamstring before he left, but he was able to work on that, was able to play through it, and he feels fine. Eddie was able to get into the rhythm of playing after 180 minutes in two games. It’s good to get all those guys back in. They’re obviously good players.”

Defender Jhon Kennedy Hurtado and midfielder Steve Zakuani also both trained after missing the Salt Lake match due to injury. Defender Patrick Ianni remains out with a calf injury, and with no particular clarity on when he will return.

Highlights from the tales they told:

Johnson: “(Seattle is) where I got my confidence: my coach having confidence in me, putting me out there week in and week out. … Like I said before, getting called into the camp, working hard here, and scoring goals here and winning — everything else is a bonus. I’m not looking too far ahead (regarding more national team duty). It’s all about right now. We’ve got a game on Sunday, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Martinez (through a translator): “It’s great to be selected. The game was great. Scoring the two goals, that kind of justifies the selection. … (I know a) goal will come with Seattle. When it does: great.”

Johansson: “It felt like a loss – that we were going to lose (to Germany). But in the second half, I don’t know what happened really, but it was pretty amazing. … (Despite not playing) I know they were pleased with what I did there. It’s just at the moment I’m the second choice; there’s nothing more with that. I did well. It was nice being there.”
