After playing almost all of two games with the U.S. national team over the past week, Eddie Johnson could only watch his Sounders teammates tonight as they played to a scoreless draw with Real Salt Lake.

“If you read my tweets throughout the game, I thought my teammates conducted themselves really well today, considering the way the game went, the red card, it’s part of soccer,” he said. “Good teams adjust. We knew it was important to try to get something out of this game. We have goals as a team. We want to finish in a certain position at the end of the season. I thought the guys were tremendous today. You couldn’t ask for a better effort.”

More from Johnson:

On his time with the national team: It was a great experience. Any time you get to go and represent your country in two important games – two World Cup qualifiers where we had to get two good results. So, A, it was good to get the call into camp; B, it shows how confident the coach was in brining me and the rest of the guys in and getting the job done. Three, credit to all my teammates here in Seattle for giving me the opportunity to put myself in this position.

On if he feels different now: I guess being in the camp and training and competing at that level for the time we were together – missing that – you’re competing with considered the best players in the country and competing, pushing each other on a day to day basis – I missed that. Every American player wants to be there. So being a part of that was special.

On credit to Sigi Schmid: For bringing me here and sitting me down, telling me their expectations, what they’re trying to achieve here as a club, their goal is winning the MLS Cup, and bringing me and making me a part of that puzzle. That’s where I got my confidence: my coach having confidence in me, putting me out there week in and week out.

On is he expects to be called back to the national team: Like I said before getting called into the camp: working hard here and scoring goals here and winning: Everything else is a bonus. I’m not looking too far ahead. It’s all about right now. We’ve got a game on Sunday, and I’m looking forward to it.
