Final: USA 3, Guatemala 1. Eddie Johnson records and assist and played into the 90th minute.
Pregame: The USA completes this phase of World Cup qualifying today, meeting Guatemala in a 4 p.m. (Pacific) match from Kansas City. The U.S. advances with a win or tie, while a loss moves its fate into the hands of others.

Here’s what Sounders coach Sigi Schmid had to say about the situation today.
“A tie gets them through, for sure. A win also gets them through for sure. But it’s one of those dangerous games where if it’s a tie going late into the game and somebody snags a winner, and Jamaica decides that they’re going to get goals, all of a sudden you can find yourself on the outside looking in — a little bit reminiscent of what the Olympic team faced in that last game. So hopefully it will go well for the U.S.”
The USA starting lineup (Howard; Cherundolo, Cameron, Bocanegra, Parkhurst; Zusi, Williams, Bradley, Johnson; Dempsey, Gomez) once again features Sounders forward Eddie Johnson, who scored both goals in a 2-1 win at Antiqua last week.
“He’s not changing anything,” Sounders forward Fredy Montero said. “He scores goals here, he goes to the national team and he scores goals, too. We know that kind of player always helps your team. Hopefully when he comes back he helps us to keep going in the playoffs and make it farther than the last two or three years.”
