Sounders-Whitecaps just before kickoff of tonight's Cascadia Cup match at BC Place.

The Sounders had never scored fewer than two goals in an MLS game against the Whitecaps. But that run came to an end tonight as the clubs played to a scoreless draw before a sellout crowd of 21,000 at BC Place.

The win puts Seattle at 13-7-10 in league play. That assures a fourth-straigh playoff berth, however they also could lose a couple of points to Salt Lake, which got two-goals up early on Chivas USA tonight. Vancouver moves to 10-12-9.

Portland remains atop the Cascadia Cup standings with eight points (2-0-2), Seattle goes to six points (1-1-3), and Vancouver to three (0-2-3).

The Timbers visit CenturyLink Field next Sunday, obviously with their current lead on the line.

I’ll be back with reaction from the locker rooms.

Attendance: 21,000, the sellout number.

74th minute: Second Sounders sub: Rose on, Evans off.

70th minute: Zakuani in for Rosales.

Through 60 minutes: Sounders seem to have weathered that big Whitecaps opening of this half. Seattle has had some dangerous counters. Still scoreless.

First five minutes of second half: … belong to Whitecaps. Two Gspurning saves already.

Second half: … is under way. No additional substitutions.

Halftime: Scoreless. However, Vancouver lost Mattocks and Thorrington to injury.

Shots 6-4 Seattle; on goal 1-0 Sea; corners 2-2; duels won 52.7% Van; possession 56.6% Seattle.

First 30 minutes: Still scoreless. Still a good one. Maybe a little more of the play tilting to Vancouver. Brave, brilliant tackle by Parke in the box a second ago.

First 15 minute: Rough game. Lots of energy. Pretty even play, although best two chances probably to Sounders.

Kickoff: We’re under way: Sounders in rave/rave; Whitecaps in brown/brown. (Yes, brown/brown.)

First kick: We are told now that while the NBCSN telecast begins at 6 p.m., tonight’s actual first kick will be 6:21. Sorry.

Lineups: Sounders starting this way: Sounders starters: GK Gspurning: D Johansson, Parke, Hurtado, Gonzalez; M Rosales, Alonso, Tiffert, Evans; F Montero, Johnson. Reserves: Weber, Burch, Martinez, Ochoa, Rose, Scott, Zakuani.

Whitecaps have just tweeted this starting lineup: Knighton; Lee, O’Brien, DeMerit, Harvey; Koffie, Rochat, Robson Thorrington; Mattocks, Miller. Reserves: Cannon, Bonjour, Camilo, Davidson, Harris, Teibert, Watson.

(Vancouver keeper Brad Knighton has six appearances, four starts, no shutouts and 1.28 GAA.)

Pregame: It’s a mild and hazy day in Vancouver, but the roof is open at BC Place for tonight’s Cascadia Cup match: Sounders at Whitecaps at 6 p.m.

The game will be shown on NBCSN and heard on the usual radio stations. We’ll keep this post open all evening for pregame, in-game and postgame news. And we’ll have other updates on Twitter @donruiz.tnt.

Sounders supporters make their presence known before match at BC Place.
