We’ve already posted a little on the blog from today’s Sounders training session. Here’s some more of what coach Sigi Schmid had to say:

On training this week…) “We just felt we have some time, so we trained hard yesterday, today was a little easier training. We pulled some guys out and worked a little bit on our finishing and had a nice, concentrated practice just on that.”

On the injury status of Mauro Rosales…) “It’s good. He trained hard yesterday, he felt good today. When I talked to him he said he felt all right, so things look good for him to be able to play on the weekend.”

On what the team is missing when Rosales is not in the lineup…) “You get used to playing with certain players and he’s a player who has an ability to break down a team when they pack in a little bit. He’s a guy with a little bit of that creative element. He’s also probably, with maybe [Christian] Tiffert as an exception, our best crosser of the ball. He’s a guy who seems to find people on those crosses. He hits them a little bit differently, a little bit less pace, but he finds people. That helps us, as well, from the flanks. He’s a guy who the ball goes to when we’re playing and he sees a lot of the ball. When he’s not in there, you’re looking for different people to connect your game.”

On next year’s season ticket package not including a friendly…) “I just play games when the club tells me to play games. If they tell me we’re having an exhibition, then we’ll play the exhibition. I think the players enjoy it. The one year we had three, and that was probably too many, but I think big games are certainly something that they enjoy doing. In my years here, the club and the business decisions that they’ve made have been far more right than wrong, so I’ll respect what they do.”

On three league games this year out-drawing the Chelsea friendly…) “I think it shows where our franchise is at, where our fan base is at, where the rivalries are at, as well. That’s something that’s good. It’s something good for MLS, and it’s good for our team. I’m hoping with the game with Portland that we sell the place out. That’s what we’re trying to accomplish and that’ll be something very, very, very unique and special. It would be the first time for an MLS game. In the past years and the old years in MLS you’d look for big crowd numbers and you’d say, ‘Who played the international friendly?’ That’s something, again, that makes us unique.”

On Marcus Hahnemann’s status) “He’s still working on this fitness and so forth. For him right now, there’s good days and bad days. There’s days where the body feels great and there’s days where the body feels sore. He’s right now in preseason, so you have to let him get three weeks under his belt, at least, and then you can start looking at things.”
