HEAD TO HEAD: The clubs split two meetings in the 2010 CCL. Marathon won 2-1 in Honduras. The Sounders won 2-0 in Seattle.
NOTES: With a win, Seattle will clinch the group and advance to the CONCACAF Champions League knockout quarterfinals. Any other result would keep Marathon in contention. … Group play consists of a home-and-away round robin among the three teams in the group. Seattle leads 2-0-0 (6 points), followed by Marathon 0-0-1 (1 point) and Caledonia AIA (0-2-1, 1 point). … Seattle is one of five CCL participants to win its first two games. … San Pedro Sula is the hometown of Sounders midfielder Mario Martinez. … Sounders midfielders Mauro Rosales (quadriceps), Christian Tiffert (ankle) and David Estrada (foot) did not travel, nor did newly acquired goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann. … Marathon is led by Honduran international defender Jerry Palacios, and veteran defenders Mario Beata and Mauricio Sabillon. … Seattle qualified by winning the 2011 U.S. Open Cup. This is the Sounders third CCL appearance. Seattle did not advance out of group play in 2010-11, and was eliminated by Santos Laguna of Mexico in the 2011-12 quarterfinals. … Marathon qualified as the non-champion with the best aggregate record in the 2011-12 Honduran season. This is Marathon’s fourth consecutive CCL appearance, and the club twice advanced to the quarterfinals.

NEXT: The Sounders return to Major League Soccer play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, meeting San Jose at CenturyLink Field. They conclude CCL group play Oct. 24, when Marathon visits.
