Sounders cross paths with ref Salazar again

As we have mentioned, the assigned referee for today’s Cascadia Cup match at Portland is Ricardo Salazar.

Salazar has always been one of the more controversial — OK, disliked — MLS refs among Sounders fans. And never more so than this season, when he worked the previous Seattle-Portland match, and also Seattle’s U.S. Open Cup final at Kansas City — both losses.

“It’s interesting that he also refereed our last game in Portland,” coach Sigi Schmid said when asked about the refereeing assignment yesterday. “The assignment situation is interesting. I don’t know why you would end up with the same referee in the same venue twice in a row. But it is what it is, and we hope that he has a better game than he did in Kansas City.”

I wish someone would kidnap Alex Prus and force him to return to reffing the MLS.
