Here’s what goalkeeper Michael Gspurning had to say about the clutter in front of the Sounders goalmouth that led the Portland’s equalizing goal in their 1-1 draw today.
“The goal was unlucky. It’s not that they don’t deserve it at this point of the game because they put the pressure on us, but the goal was a little bit lucky because it happened from a corner and we were a little bit disorganized in this case and we reacted too late. Then Leo wants to clear, and I am also there, and maybe if Leo doesn’t clear it I can push it away from the line. He wants to clear, I want to clear, and it ended up in the goal.”
If it’s any consolation to Timbers’ fans, Gspurning also through the goal Portland surrendered was a bit unlucky too, as reserve keeper Joe Bendik was in the match only for seconds before facing a goal-of-the-week candidate shot from Fredy Montero.
“It was pretty unlucky for the goalkeeper for Portalnd – the new one,” Gspurning said. “But he did well. He took it like a man and made a good save in the last minute. He played a good game. Bad for us.”
Stoked that we took a point from their house on national tv.
Showed we are the class of Cascadia.
Go Sounders!!!
