MLS rosters must be frozen at 2 p.m. Saturday, but paperwork for any new signings would have to be completed by 2 p.m. (Pacific) today. In any case: tick, tick, tick.
Whether the Sounders FC roster changes by then seemed to remain up in the air as of midday when we asked coach Sigi Schmid for an update.
“You never know,” he said. “You never know. I had a headache with all the discussions we were having and the different permutations: ‘This could happen, if this happens that could happen, if this happens that could happen.’ So there are different things we’re looking at. There might be something, but until it’s signed, done, I never assume anything. Might be something, might be nothing.”
And if nothing happens, Schmid said he would feel confident going forward with the players already around.
“I’m very confident with the roster that we have,” he said. “I think the additions we made in the (transfer) window with Tiffert and Martinez were two very important and solid additions that made us a stronger team with more options. That should obviously bear some fruit and carry some weight as we go into the (CONCACAF Champions League match against Marathon in Honduras) on Wednesday. We have enough here to win it. It all comes down to our approach, our attitude.”
