The are at least two big-time changes for the Portland Timbers since their 2-1 win over Seattle earlier this season: New coach (Gavin Wilkinson replacing Jon Spencer) and new keeper (Donovan Ricketts in, Troy Perkins out).

That makes Saturday’s match the first Cascadia Cup experience for Ricketts, and he says he’s looking forward to the experience.

Similarly, Seattle midfielder Mario Martinez wasn’t on the roster for the June 24 meeting. Here’s what he had to say (through a translator) after training yesterday when asked about the rivalry.

“They just explained to me that this is pretty much the rivalry in the league, and when it’s the big rivalry, everybody wants to be on the field, everybody wants to win, nobody wants to lose. And so if I have the opportunity I’m going to get out there and play my hardest for Seattle.”
