Coaches clinic followed Sounders training today at CenturyLink Field.

Sounders FC followed training today with a clinic for soccer coaches from all levels, as well as club administrators, technical directors and athletic directors. According to the club, the clinic would include a look inside the technical, tactical and mental aspects of soccer. Attendees also have/had the opportunity to interact with the coaching staff.

Here’s some of what coach Sigi Schmid had to say about the event.

“The role is really the club’s role in terms of the interaction that exists between the Sounders and Washington Youth Soccer,” he said. “I think that’s really a bond that has to exist and has to be strong. Even though there’s not a ton of players that are going to get from Washington Youth Soccer into the pro level, it’s still something for them to look up to, and it’s something for them to emulate. It’s also something for them that is also motivating as well.”

Schmid also talked at length about what he has learned from watching other coaches throughout his career. I’ll have more about that later.
