Sounders FC took a commanding lead in Group 4 of CONCACAF Champions League with a 3-1 win at Caledonia AIA tonight.

Seattle climbed to 2-0-0, Caledonia fell to 0-2-1 and idle Marathon remains as 0-0-1 at this stage of the four-game, home-and-away round robin.

A win in either of their next two games would be enough to put Seattle through to the knockout quarterfinals.

Seattle’s goals came from Alex Caskey, Sammy Ochoa and Fredy Montero.

As with the earlier game in Seattle, Caledonia’s lone score came on a penalty kick by Kareen Joseph.

Unofficial stats from Sounders: (SEA-CAL): Goals 3-1, Shots 16-16, SOG 7-2, Corners 6-8, Fouls 10-11, Off 5-4, Saves 1-2.

The Sounders return to MLS play Sunday at FC Dallas. Their next CCL match is Sept. 19 at Marathon.

Back with more later.

86th minute: Ochoa off, Tiffert on.

70th minute: GOAL Seattle. This time the sizzling hot Fredy Montero scoring from close range, assited by Caskey. Sounders, 3-1. Montero has scored in five straight matches, and has eight goals in last seven games across all competitions.

67th minute: GOAL Caledonia. Joseph scored on PK after call on Scott for push in the area. Iffy call.

61st minute: Cordell Cato — a native of Trinidad — in for Mario Martinez.

60th minute: Montero pass to Ochoa who sends ball just under the crossbar from about 18 yards. Seattle, 2-0.

Second half: … has begun.

Halftime: Sounders 1, Caledonia 0.

45th minute: GOAL Sounders. Ochoa passed to left side of area, where Scott goes down ahead of defender to move it back to the middle, where Caskey finishes. His first CCL goal. Seattle, 1-0.

10th minute: Best chance so far. Ochoa gets lots of space and puts header on goal from about six yards, but keeper Samuel gets there for save.

First kick: The game has begun. Sounders in cyan/cyan; Caledonia in red/red.

Lineup: Here’s how the Sounders are starting: GK Gspurning: D Scott, Ianni, Hurtado, Burch: M Martinez, Alonso, Evans, Caskey; F Montero, Ochoa. Reserves: Ford, Parke, Gonzalez, Tiffert, Cato, Zakuani, Carrasco.

Pregame: The Sounders return to CONCACAF Champions League play at Caledonia of Trinidad at 5 p.m. today. The game will be shown on Fox Soccer.

No radio. But we’ll keep this blog post open all evening for pregame, in-game and postgame reports. And we’ll also be tweeting @donruiztnt.

Next up, what could be a pretty interesting lineup and 18-man roster.

Very pleased to get 6 points from our first two CCL games. Now a simple draw in either or our last two games advances us to the quarterfinals. Well done Sounders!
