Here’s some of what Johnson had to say after the match:

About his goal: Kyle Beckerman and I were watching the first half and talking about getting the ball higher up the pitch and getting between the two center backs and looking for that one-time ball through. It was a play where we had some good possession. Chris Pontius laid it off to Kyle and Kyle one-timed it through and I was able to make a good run and it was a good ball through, so I just tried to get a shot off. I guess I’m just riding the wave right now because when I’m getting deflections, they’re going in right now. Overall, it was a great win by the team – a great team effort tonight.

On the deflection: When I got the through ball, David Luiz was trying to force me one way but I was trying to get it to my strong foot. When I got it to my right foot, I had enough time to see the far post. I was aiming for the far post, but he stuck his foot out … sometimes they say you have to create your own luck. When it deflected, for a moment I thought I missed my opportunity. When you come off the bench you want to make an impact on the game and it was a blessing tonight.

On gelling with the group with just two days of practice: I don’t think it was too difficult because there is enough experience within the team – when you have the likes of David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Landon Donovan, Dwayne De Rosario … it wasn’t their first time so they know what the expectations are. Coach Benny Olsen is a competitor. He likes to win and he told us to go out there and play at high level to try and compete and try and win the game. Monday’s training was really light. Tuesday’s training was more sharp and we were getting a good understanding for each other. We came together in just two days and we put on a fine display for the fans tonight in Philadelphia.

On the All-Star experience: It was fun. It was good to get out there with some of the guys that you play against that are rivals and some of the guys you’ve had hard battles with during the season. We put all that aside and we all had one common goal. It was a fun three days with the boys. All the amenities in Philadelphia and the team camaraderie, it was amazing. But it’s back to business now and I’m looking forward to the game against Colorado.

Pregame: Here’s the starting lineup for the MLS All-Stars in their match tonight against Chelsea FC: Nielsen, Beitashour, Collin, DeMerit, Morrow, Alonso, Beckham, De Rosario, Donovan, Henry, Wondolowski.

Halftime: MLS 1, Chelsea 1.

56th minute: Alonso out.

60th minute: Johnson in.
