Leading to their friendly tomorrow against the Sounders, Chelsea had a press conference today at the Four Seasons in downtown Seattle. Some highlights:

Manager ROBERTO DI MATTEO
*“The perception in Europe of Major League Soccer is that it is improving. The fact that they are signing younger players and helping them grow from an earlier age is showing by the increased quality on the field.”

* “I watch MLS more because the quality of play is improving. The attention to the league and matches is brought by the big-name players but there is plenty of talent outside of those bigger names.”

* “We enjoy coming to the U.S. because they have great facilities, strong opposition and it helps increase our fan base around the world. The MLS teams are in mid-season so their form provides great opposition for us. I went to the see the stadium twice already and it’s an amazing facility. We are looking forward to playing in it.”

*“The Sounders have one of the best fan bases in the MLS, I believe they have 34k season ticket holders, so we know there is a lot of passion for soccer here in Seattle.”

* “It can only be positive to have English and international teams come to the U.S. It’ll only enhance the appetite of the fans here.”

New signee MARKO MARIN“The training ground is magnificent. I never thought training facilities could be so big. I was very impressed.”
