EURO 2012 kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Friday, with Poland hosting Greece. The match will be shown on ESPN.

Here’s a link to all the information from the EURO website.

We managed to get a few Sounders’ preferences and predictions after training on Wednesday, before they began their ongoing four-day break.

SIGI SCHMID
His thoughts on Germany’s chances: “Good. A couple problems for them simply because Mertesacker‘s coming off an injury, hasn’t played a lot of minutes. Schweinsteiger is supposedly got a little bit of a calf injury. Klose is coming off an injury. A little bit of that. It depends on how much he relies on the Bayern Munich players versus the Dortmund players. And I do follow the Germans. The Dortmund players are a little bit fresher at this stage. I think Germany’s a quality team, but they’re in a tough group, and they’re opening game against Portugal is not going to be easy.”

His pick:Germany. … How can I say? When I watch the Euros and Germany’s participating — and the United States is not involved — I watch it as a fan of Germany rather than as a coach trying to analyze what’s going on. I still watch games and you try and pick up trends and see what’s happening; but I’m definitely a fan. I definitely scream at the TV, holler at the coach for the substitution that he made, and ‘why’s he playing that guy?’ and all that.”

Does he say that in English or German? “Often in German.”

ANDY ROSE
Will you be watching? Yeah, of course. It’s probably my favorite tournament to watch. It’s the first time in a long time we haven’t had too many expectations on England. I’ve got a good feeling about this one.

BRAD EVANS
His pick: Holland. And (Robin van Persie) as the leading goal scorer.

The Euros are the 2nd best soccer tournament in the world, right behind the world cup, and a great treat for fans of top class soccer.
And there are some great national rivalries in the groups stage this time around – Germany/Netherlands; France/England; Russia/Poland; Spain/Italy.

My prediction for the Final is Germany over Netherlands.
Dark horse team would have been Russia, but they unfortunately, for them, will meet Germany or the Dutch in the Q-finals – ending their run. Underperforming team will be Italy, which does not get past the group stage.
