The Sounders trained today at Starfire. The club usually likes to train at CenturyLink Field a couple of days before home games, but coach Sigi Schmid decided against that in advance of the Wednesday home game against Columbus.

“We didn’t go to CenturyLink today because we trained Friday on turf and we played the game Saturday on turf,” he explained. “So we didn’t want to go three days in a way on turf. We wanted to stay off turf, so that was the reason for it. … Normally we’ll always train at CenturyLink two days before the game.”

Schmid also gave this health update on his team:

“I think (Brad) Evans should be ready to go. Leo (Gonzalez), it’s still a day-to-day thing with him. (Patrick) Ianni’s still out at this juncture. Michael Gspurning did a little bit of work today, felt good. So he’s now starting to ramp up, and he feels good about it.”

He was asked if his No. 1 keeper might be ready for the Crew: “No, he’s still got to ramp up a lot more.”
