The MLS Disciplinary Committee has fined Seattle Sounders FC forward Eddie Johnson an undisclosed amount for making an inappropriate gesture as he was leaving the field after the April 28 game against the Chicago Fire.
Fines collected will be donated to the charitable partners of MLS W.O.R.K.S. and the MLS Players Union.
The club released this statement from Johnson:
“I sincerely apologize to the Chicago fans, my teammates, MLS, and the Sounders’ supporters for my actions and poor judgment I used on Saturday. It was a very emotional game and I let my emotions get the best of me. That is not acceptable and I take full responsibility for my actions. I am truly sorry this took attention away from the success of our team after a great win in Chicago.”
