A spokesman for the Colorado Rapids says that midfielder Brian Mullan has decided against speaking to the media in advance of his visit to Seattle this weekend to face the Sounders.

Mullan, of course, is the guy whose reckless tackle broke Steve Zakuani’s leg during a game last April 22, an injury from which he is still recovering.

“Brian is focused on helping the Rapids earn three points this Saturday in Seattle, and will be available to speak with reporters after the game,” Rapids director of media relations David Linholm said. “He remains deeply regretful of the incident which broke Steve Zakuani’s leg last season.”

The Rapids and Sounders will play at 1 p.m. Saturday at CenturyLink Field. The game will mark Mullan’s first appearance in Seattle since the incident.

Mullan addressed the incident in this preseason story by Grant Wahl of Sports Illustrated.
