The Sounders concluded the local portion of their training this morning at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila.
Tomorrow they fly out for their first road game of the season, Saturday at DC United.
“It’s always more challenging going three time zones because you lose that one day of training,” coach Sigi Schmid said. “You’ve got the (travel day) where the only thing you can do when you get into town is if you can get into a gym and do a little bit of cardio work. As a result we probably worked a little bit longer today to make up for what we’re going to lose tomorrow. But we’ve got a lot of players who have been in this league, so travel is not something new to them. It’s probably something new to obviously the guys who are new to the league – for them that’s always an issue at the beginning to get used to it and feel that they can adjust quickly enough.”
Judging from training today, Brad Evans, Jhon Kennedy Hurtado and Eddie Johnson appear ready to play, and therefore to travel with the team. Apparently not so for either Mauro Rosales or Adam Johansson.
