Thanks to the Sounders for the following transcript of Sounders coach Sigi Schmid’s comments after the team’s 2-0 victory over the Columbus Crew on Wednesday:

Schmid on first training game win of the 2012 preseason:

“It is a good feeling. I thought the first 30 minutes of the first-half they were much better than us. They were sharper than us and they carried the game to us a little bit. But we didn’t give too much up in terms of real quality chances. Michael [Gspurning] really only had to make one save, and that was actually more in the second-half that he pulled off that save. The last 15 minutes of the first-half I thought we got a hold of the game more. We talked about things at halftime. We wanted to make sure we took [Milovan] Mirosevic out of the game for them because he was making the game a lot so we needed to get tighter to him, and we needed to get more people in midfield so we could build up better because they were dropping off. Once we started doing that I thought we got a hold of the game. We started to create some things. The goal was a well taken goal, good cross from [Adam] Johansson, combination with [Mauro] Rosales, good header. And I thought Fredy [Montero] could have had the second if he pulls the trigger on the other one that he comes in. Then the guys who played the last 45 [minutes] I thought did well.”

On the combination of Mauro Rosales and Adam Johansson:

“They are going to get better and better as they know each other more and more. Adam likes to go forward so now we are talking a little bit about picking and choosing those right moments. Rather than go forward 10 times and be effective three or four, I’d rather have you go forward five times and be effective three or four, and so those are picking and choosing. We needed Mauro to come inside a little bit more, which he did in the second-half also, because he is an important player for us. He needs to get on the ball; needs to make things happen and I thought he did that.”

On how the cards affected the game:

“Obviously it forced us to move some things around. [...] The referee made some interesting calls and so forth. It allowed us to put some guys in. It allowed us to look at Roger [Levesque] at outside back and actually we weren’t going to play Christian Sivebaek because of his ankle a little bit but he said he felt a lot better today so it was a miracle recovery and we put him in up front. It was a chance for us to see him up front and obviously he was quite effective there.”

On the newcomers:

“It’s good to see the new guys involved. [Adam] Johansson gets an assist. [Christian] Sivebaek really made that goal for Cordell [Cato] with a good move, a little scoop pass and Cordell got in there. I think the fans will see that those guys give us a dimension, obviously with their pace and their speed and their athleticism from that standpoint and that’s going to be a nice addition to our squad.”

Great to see the team put up a solid win, punctuated by El Rosso.

    He is the man.
