The Sounders concluded their first phase of local training camp today. Next they will go on next week to Arizona where there will be an emphasis on fitness. Then, after a brief return, they head off to Florida, where they emphasis will be on games. Then they return home for the final phase before the start of the season.

We asked coach Sigi Schmid if he accomplished what he wanted in Phase One.

“The first phase was good,” he said. “We got to see players, we got to identify players. We’re going to make a couple of cuts. And also we have a good idea now where we think some guys are best in terms of their positions and what makes sense for them to be looked at.”
