I wonder why Seattle doesn’t have a team in the WPS. You would think with our “progressive” birkenstock-wearing, Seattle-Storm loving fans you’d see significant support for a pro team. Obviously the WPS is circling the drain, but I can’t help think that if they had tried it in our neck of the woods they’d have some cornerstone franchises.

I’ve had the same thought, and will try to pursue this.

I’ve heard before that they tried to restrict teams to certain geographies to cut down on travel costs which would be considerable for a WPS team here.

Good point, DY. I remember seeing a very entertaining game in San Jose a couple of seasons ago, but it’s an all-Eastern league right now: Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia, New Jersey and western New York.

  5. ciscokid says:

Yeah but just a couple of years ago they had California teams. The notion you would put expenses ahead of potential revenue, visibility, and credibility is why this league is almost done.

Of course, in an effort to curb expenses by going to an unbalanced schedule, MLS has hurt the credibility of the Supporter’s Shield and the records of teams competing for playoff seeding so what do I know?

I’d wager we have a WPS team within 3 years
