Coach Sigi Schmid confirmed the expected after Sounders training today: Midfielder Mauro Rosales’ knee injury hasn’t healed quickly enough to allow him to play Wednesday in Seattle’s do-or-die match against Real Salt Lake.

In a nice little show of confidence and optimism, however, Schmid added that Rosales might be available for the Western Conference final on Sunday.

“It’s a situation of Mauro tried his best in terms of trying to come back,” Schmid said. “He’s much further along at the same timepoint of recovery from the injury as he was when he had the injury against D.C. United. Obviously there’s optimism as we move forward that there’s a chance for Sunday and as we go forward from there.”
