The Sounders have concluded Thursday training at Starfire. To me and some observers, it seemed a little more chippy and intense than usual. However, coach Sigi Schmid didn’t fully agree when asked.

“No, he said. “We had a film session before practice. We tried to point out some things. We wanted to make sure the guys are ready to ratchet up a level because that’s what you’ve got to do. It’s not like we need to change anything drastically. We just have to be a little sharper, a little more alert, a little more intense. We wanted to make sure we get that part of it right.”

Fredy Montero had a couple of notable scratches on his face, but those didn’t come today but instead Tuesday against Monterrey.

“They try to get an advantage any way they can,” he said, through an interpreter. “If they play a little bit dirty, that’s the way it goes. That’s soccer.”
