There’s a new look to the MLS standings this morning, as Real Salt Lake remains three points behind Sounders FC in the West … but no longer has any games in hand.

In fact, for perhaps the first time this season, no one has played fewer games than Seattle — except Vancouver, which doesn’t really figure into this discussion — and the top for are all even: 30 games played, four games remaining.

Next up, RSL goes to Los Angeles on Saturday, while the Sounders are at New England.

Here’s a look at RSL’s 3-0 home loss to Chicago last night.

Meanwhile, here’s a very good piece on Sounders’ success from Grant Wahl on

So…the question is, with the RSL loss, does that make a result this weekend more or less imperative? Obviously, the Cup requires an all out effort. I’m guessing we throw a reserve-heavy lineup on Saturday….even though a win could be very valuable (RSL plays LA…a win gives us points vs one or both of them). Any guesses as to who we will see? Will Ford get his first start on Saturday, or will Kasey gut it out?

Also…I’m wondering if Beckerman gets additional suspension time for his headbutt. If he did, he wouldn’t have much of an argument. I played that back a couple of times. He turns his back to the ball and powers through the Fire player with the headbutt. He could easily have broken a jaw, caused a concussion or knocked out some teeth…and it was definitely intentional, meant to harm, and not relevant to the run of play.

Good questions Ex – Sounds like Sigi has a lighter lineup planned for Sat, if G Wahl’s article is accurate … Scuba and Harvard up top … Jaq, Carrasco, Noonan, and Lamar in MF, … Wahl, Scott, Ianni, Graham in the back … Ochoa off the bench or start him with Scuba … Rest as reserves only

Sounds like Noonan is recovering from a muscular injury … Predict Estrada starts in MF
