It’s been a pretty nice couple of games for Sounders fans, eh? On Saturday they won some hardware — Cascadia Cup in Vancouver — and last night they stayed alive for some pretty prestigious hardware in CONCACAF Champions League.
However, what comes next might be their elimination from the Supporters Shield race.
Here’s the league’s explanation on how it could happen as early as Saturday:
LA Galaxy will win the Supporters’ Shield for best regular-season record IF:
· LA Galaxy defeat Real Salt Lake on Saturday AND
o Seattle fails to defeat New England OR· Real Salt Lake loses to Chicago (tonight) AND ties LA Galaxy AND
o Seattle fails to defeat New England
The math is simple:
We keep winning, LAG doesn’t, we get the shield.

Fact: if we win 4 more games in any competition and we set the post “shoot-out” record. That’s really something.

LAG’s win in CL last night gives them a meaningful game to play on Oct 20, which cuts into their playoff prep….

LA has the advantage of playing RSL this weekend with no Kyle Beckerman on the field. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see him get an extra game for that headbutt. It was fully and completely intentional and meant to harm. A tie would be the best result for us in that game I think. We don’t want RSL winning and getting their mojo back. Plus, it would net us (with a win on our part – questionable based on the lineup I expect to see in a place where we always struggle) 4 points (2 each) on our closest competition, whereas a win by either only gets us 3 points on one of them.
