Ianni ready for Cup, Seamon gets more time

The Sounders have concluded training for tomorrow’s U.S. Open Cup semifinal against Dallas at Starfire.

That game, not surprisingly, was the main topic of conversation with coach Sigi Schmid. Others were Lamar Neagle being honored as MLS player of the week (outlined in the post below), and a health update on Patrick Ianni and Michael Seamon.

Schmid on the game: It’s the last game in a long stretch of games for us. We want to make sure that we maintain our focus going into this last game. The U.S. Open Cup is something that we take very seriously and

Neagle’s hat trick earns MLS player of week

Good news, but no surprise, today at Sounder Lamar Neagle of Tacoma and Federal Way was named MLS player of the week. (He got my vote, and this was the first week I can recall when I cast both my votes for Sounders: Neagle first, and Mauro Rosales second — 6-2 wins seem to justify that.) Anyway, here’s the release from the league:

Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Lamar Neagle was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 24 of the 2011 MLS season. Neagle scored three goals-only the

Sounders and Dallas take Open Cup seriously

Other than the addition of SammyOchoa (post below), the main topic with the Sounders today was the U.S. Open Cup semifinal against Dallas coming up Tuesday at Starfire Sports Stadium.

Here’s some of what coach Sigi Schmid had to say:

On the semifinal)
“It’s an important game for us because we have always taken the Open Cup seriously. Obviously Dallas takes it seriously as well because Lamar Hunt was their original owner and the Hunt family still owns the team. I think it’s a game of massive importance but we want to accomplish something that no MLS team

Ochoa works, but three weeks from play

The Sounders have concluded training for another day. And the new face joining them was Sammy Ochoa, acquired last week.

“I’m really happy to be here,” he said. “I was here a week last time I came on trial. MLS and Seattle got to an agreement, and I’m here and I’m really happy. It’s a really good team, a really good group of guys, and I’m happy to be here.

Coach Sigi Schmid sounded happy too:

“He scored a good goal,” Schmid said after watching training. “He’s patient around the box. He’s a good finisher. He holds up the

George John will be with Dallas on Tuesday

Dallas (and former University of Washington) defender George John will be with the Hoops on Tuesday when they meet Sounders FC in a U.S. Open Cup semifinal.

What seemed to be an imminent transfer to Blackburn Rovers of the English Premier League has not been finalized, the MLS club announced.

Here’s a report from the FC Dallas website.

Neagle and Sounders discuss hat trick

Naturally, Lamar Neagle‘s three-goal performance in today’s 6-2 win over Columbus — the second hat trick in Sounders history — was the talk of the locker room. Here’s some of what was said:

LAMAR NEAGLE
(On playing at the MLS level…)
“Since it’s so early I’ve kind of worked my way up with the Sounders. The level was kind of just a little bit too fast for me in 2009 and going down really helped me out in Charleston.”

(On his first goal…)
“I didn’t really hit it too well but I mean

Sounders react to record-setting win

Here’s Sounders reaction to their 6-2 win over Columbus today, which pulled them to within three points of Los Angeles in the Supporters Shield race:

Sigi Schmid – Sounders FC Head Coach
(On his strategy for lineup changes with the team playing eight games in August…)
“Just to stay fresh; keep our team right. Lamar obviously didn’t play in Monterey. Fernandez played a lot of hard minutes down in Monterey, helped us, scored a great goal down there. We wanted to come back with Rosales, who also didn’t play in Monterey. So it’s just a matter of squad rotation

Crew reacts: Early goal and downhill from there

Here’s some reaction from the Columbus locker room to the Crew’s 6-2 defeat at Sounders FC:

Robert Warzycha- Head Coach
(On the starting out the game poorly…)
“As I hate to say the game was difficult after twenty-minutes we were three goals down. The goals we gave up today are not the best ones, we made a lot of mistakes and they punished us. I think it was fortunate for Seattle that they scored easy goals today.”

(On his speech to the team at halftime…) “We changed the system a little bit and tried to stay positive and win
