Sounders FC youth campers take in training session at CentryLink Field.

About 2,500 Sounders FC Youth Campers are taking in practice today as part of the club’s Campers Appreciation Day. Campers will be allowed to interact with coaches and players and win prizes including autographed Sounders FC merchandise.

Everyone seems to be having fun, and if you’ve got a window nearby you know it is a near-perfect summer day in Puget Sound.

“It just gives you a great feeling,” Sounders coach Sigi Schmid said. “You realize that the sport has made an impact, that the brand has made an impact in this area and that people are accepting what we have tried to do not only on the field but also as an organization. I think it’s a tribute to our ownership and to the administrative people and the marketing people and all the efforts they put into it. But it’s also a tribute to our team because without having a good team on the field, a team that people respect and can get excited about and want to watch, then people don’t want to wear your jersey either. I think all that has sort of come together and I’m very proud of the effort our team has put in.”

I’ll be back with club news and quotes after training.
