RSL outbids Sounders to host Cup semifinal

If Sounders FC beats Los Angeles next week in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals, they may have to hit the road for the semis.

Semifinal hosting scenarios released today by U.S. Soccer show that if both teams advance, Seattle would travel to Real Salt Lake; while if Seattle and Dallas advance, the Sounders would host.

Here is the full list of possibilities (Pacific times listed) from TheCup.us website:

August 30

Chicago Fire / NY Red Bulls at Sporting Kansas City
5:30 pm – LIVESTRONG Sporting Park; Kansas City, Kan.
OR
Richmond Kickers at Chicago Fire
5:30 pm – Toyota Park; Bridgeview, Ill.
OR
Richmond Kickers at New York Red Bulls
5:00 pm – Red Bull Arena; Harrison, N.J.

Seattle Sounders / LA Galaxy at Real Salt Lake
6:00 pm – Rio Tinto Stadium; Sandy, Utah
OR
FC Dallas at Seattle Sounders
7:00 pm – Starfire Sports Stadium; Tukwila, Wash.

Los Angeles Galaxy at FC Dallas
6:00 pm – Pizza Hut Park; Frisco, Texas

The right to host is secured by sealed bids presented to U.S. Soccer.

    Unfortunately, a rental-rate problem developed between the club and the Tacoma school district.
