Seattle Sounders Women 1 – 1 University of Washington Huskies

Starfire Sports – Tukwila WA – In the final exhibition match for the Sounders Women, the University of Washington and the Sounders shared a 1-1 scoreline. The match pitted former Huskies against the team they helped lead to the Elite 8 in this year’s NCAA Tournament. Jane Mitchell and McKenna Waitley suited up for the Sounders Women in order to compete against the familiar purple and gold that they dawned for the last 4 years.

If you missed the match, it will be available this weekend on Comcast On Demand. To watch it for FREE, go to channel 1, then select Sports & Fitness, then Local Sports, then Sounders Women.

The Huskies took the lead early in the 2nd half with a goal scored by Allie Beahan, a sophomore from Sammamish, Washington.
Less than 10 minutes later, the Sounders equalized on a free kick from Justi Baumgardt-Yamada. The former national team player was setup 20 yards from goal near the top of the penalty box. The free kick was earned by Jocelyn Charette when she was pulled down following a great turn on the ball. Baumgardt-Yamada’s shot hit the upper corner of the net.

The Sounders Women begin the 2011 W-League Regular season on May 14 on the road in Victoria, BC. The first home match is May 29 at Starfire.
