Tide Owner, Head Coach Appear on TV Tacoma

On Thursday April 28 Tacoma Tide FC owner Mike Jennings and head coach Gerry Gray were guests on TVTacoma.com’s CityLine program.

The show will soon be archived and linked online at http://www.cityoftacoma.org/Page.aspx?hid=10248.

Jennings and Gray talked about the role of Tacoma Tide FC in the South Sound soccer community, about the move to Stadium Bowl, and also gave insight into their soccer backgrounds.

Monterrey wins Champions League at RSL

Humberto Suazo’s goal just before halftime was the difference tonight, as Monterrey defeated Real Salt Lake 1-0 at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah. That goal, combined with the 2-2 draw in Monterrey, gives the Mexican side the CONCACAF Champions League title and sends them on to the FIFA Club World Cup.

Halftime: Monterrey up 1-0 tonight and therefore 3-2 in aggregate. Humberto Suaro finished a beautiful sequence from close range in the final seconds of the half.

Mexico match at Qwest passes 40,000 mark

This just in:

More than 40,000 tickets have been sold for the upcoming international match on Saturday, May 28 at 4 p.m. ET between the national teams of Mexico and Ecuador on the Xbox Pitch at Qwest Field in Seattle, WA, presented by AT&T, organizers announced today.

While a limited amount of tickets remain in the lower bowl of the stadium, the upper level is now open for the fans to enjoy the international match, with 300 level seats available for $30 and $40. Group offers and discounted ticket plans can be purchased by visiting the Qwest Field box office Monday- Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (local time) or by contacting the Seattle Sounders FC at 877-MLS-GOAL. Tickets can also be purchased at www.Ticketmaster.com, by calling 1-800-745-3000 or at all usual Ticketmaster locations.

Carey to be grand marshal of Seafair parade

Highlights of a press release just in from the club:

Renowned comedian, actor and producer Drew Carey has been named Grand Marshal of the 2011 Alaska Airlines Seafair Torchlight Parade. The Torchlight Parade is Sat., July 30, and will be a celebration of the Season of Seafair.

“We are honored to feature Drew as the 2011 Torchlight Parade Grand Marshal,” said Beth Knox, President & CEO of Seafair. “We are fortunate to honor a celebrity of Mr. Carey’s stature, who also has invested in our community through the Seattle Sounder’s ownership.”

Distraught Mullan misses training with Rapids

Colorado midfielder Brian Mullan is said to be so distraught over his tackle that fractured Steve Zakuani’s right leg that he is unable to practice.

Sounders plan Zakuani tribute on Saturday

The MLS office was silent today, so it now appears Wednesday will be the day that we receive word on disciplinary action against Brian Mullan for his tackle Friday that injured Steve Zakuani.

Sounders turn against Mullan; league next?

As most of us have seen, Brian Mullan’s tackle on Steve Zakuni came just seconds after he had been knocked by Sounders defender Tyson Wahl. The replays show Mullan gesturing to the referee for a call, and when no call came, he immediately ran to Zakuani and slid into his legs.

After the game, Mullan apologized for injuring Zakuani, but added “it’s a tackle I’ve done hundreds of times and would probably do again.”

After the game, players and coaches on both teams generally portrayed Mullan as an aggressive player, but not a dirty one.
